Photobucket Over at Lumberjocks when you post one of your projects you receive feed back from other Lumberjocks. For me this was a vital part of my woodworking journey. Not only do you start to feel as if you know these people, you end up really looking forward to what they have to say about your projects whether you receive constructive criticism or you get compliments, which for me has been a great ego booster and allowed me to be able to feel alright about posting my woodwork and making this blog about it. Martin the creator of Lumberjocks has added a way to place links of your posts on your personal blog. So I am now going to place the link to the items that I have posted here AND at Lumberjocks so that if you wish to click on it, you will see what other Lumberjocks have said about my particular project. If you are a woodworker and have not joined Lumberjocks yet, this may just be the push you need when you read the wonderful comments from this great group of people! And if you do join, please tell them Allison sent ya!

Manatee and Baby- Segmentation

11/24/2007

I just got finished with this today 11-24-2007. I have had this pattern since June as it came out of the June 07 issue of Creative Woodworks and Crafts. I will also say that I had absolutely no intention of ever making this, EVER .Well the other day my "hubby" had his usual "discovery" channel on or perhaps it was "national geographic" but what ever it was I heard the word Manatees and came down from my shop to do a "checkitoutthing" and was pleasantly surprised and totally blown away by what I saw! I knew nothing of this creature soooo here's a little Manatee 101 by Allison. They are herbivores (they eat plant life) and spend most of their time grazing in shallow waters at depths of only 3-7 feet yet they generally weigh in at an amazing weight of 900-1200 lbs!!!! And to go along with that they are usually 9-10 feet long! The females tend to be larger than their male counterparts and their youngin's weigh in at around 60 lbs .So it was with this fascination of how they look for real and how big they are I went upstairs and found this issue and proceeded to make this manatee and baby.  The wood is another piece of pine from our wood pile (I sure hope we have heat this winter with me finding all these pieces of wood I like!!!) and the designer is Deborah Nicholson. Obviously this was a simple pattern however I really liked the way it turned out! All I did was put a spray of clear on it, a backer board, some more stuffed animal eyes, a hanging hook and call it done!
PEACE!!!
Allison
This is just a piece of blue pine with worm holes and all.I wanted to keep it just like that!

Since you are here, why not check out my older posts by simply clicking "Older Posts" above, and on the right side bar is my curiosity poll, which only requires one click. I really am interested in finding out what the male/female ratio of visitors are on a woodworking site!
Thanks and Peace
