It is Tuesday February 26th. As I write this I am doing so in great pain. You see I did not practice what I preach which is SAFETY FIRST ! Last Friday I was up in my shop having worked on getting it together after a cold winter, therefore cold shop. I would say I had it done and I was enjoying the sound of the scroll saws and sanders again. I even enjoyed the occasional swear word that would leave my mouth when I would bust a band saw blade or miss-cut a piece.
I am right at the point where four different projects will all be done at the same time, or should I say the same day. I am doing three segmentation projects that I found through Scroll saw Goodies. It is the the blog I love so much that I write about on the upper right hand side panel of this blog. Address is (http://scrollsawgoodies.com/ anyway I also have a scrolled piece that is so close to being done all this is driving me crazy.
You see I use toothpicks A LOT in my shop for all sorts of reasons. Well you probably can guess the rest of the story. On Friday I was walking across my shop when I noticed one toothpick on the floor, ONE!!! Having something in my hands at the time I silently thought to myself "I will go back and pick that up when I lay this down."
Well guess what? I did pick it up except I picked it up with the bottom of my foot! I was up in my shop with no shoes on , another huge no-no! just nice thick warm winter wear socks! It went in about a quarter of an inch and when I pulled it out of both my foot and socks I remember thinking how the hell could a toothpick go in to your foot that hard, when it seems like when I use them they are always breaking when I don't want them too. Anyway I was not hurting to bad and I decided to close shop for the rest of the night and I proceeded to do the things you are suppose to do after you do something you know you should never do! All washed and cleaned off, iced etc. etc. I went to bed.
Next morning the fun begins. A foot that weighs more than I do along with it being the size of a football (perhaps I am exaggerating a tad.)Add to that my luck as in now it 's SATURDAY!!!
Fast forward to tonite, I keep thinking that it is going to get better. It is not infected. I am not running a fever. The point of entry (which was right underneath the middle toe) and you can't even see it.
Well all I can think of is #1. I need insurance, and # 2. I think I must have broken my toe. When I stepped on that lone toothpick it was quite a shock and perhaps I swung my foot around and hit one of several different workbenches, tables etc.
So the moral of my story is --------- HEED YOUR OWN ADVICE!!!
SAFETY FIRST!!!
Peace, Allison
